Indiana Wesleyan Wins NCCAA National Championship

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Two first half goal propelled the Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College to capture the NCCAA National Championship on Saturday night in Kissimmee, Florida.

The NCCAA national championship is the first ever for the men's soccer program and the 23rd all-time for Indiana Wesleyan. The title is the sixth for the Wildcats during the past two seasons and 18th since 2000.

"This team is very deserving of this championship," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Mark Castro. "Our seven seniors, Andy Rdzok, Nick Coffman, Joel Trainer, Travis Brady, Christian Davis, Mason Bragg and Ben Chleboun, really turned this program around. Before this group came to Indiana Wesleyan, we were at the bottom of the conference. Since their arrival, we have won three conference championships and now a national title."

Hendrickson Honored by the CCC; Cavaliers Sweep Weekly Awards for Third Time this Season

 

PORTLAND, Ore. - Concordia's Danielle MacBride and Jacky Hendrickson were honored with women's soccer Player of the Week awards by the Cascade Collegiate Conference, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Freshman Jackie Hendrickson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) turned in sparkling defensive play at midfield to help lead the Cavs to its 13th shutout of the season. With Hendrickson patrolling midfield, the Cavs did not allow a shot on goal against the Warriors.

The fourth-ranked Cavaliers (18-0-1) will host The College of Idaho (12-5-2) on Wednesday, Nov. 12 for the CCC title. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation Complex in Beaverton, Ore.

Joel Trainer is the second straight Wildcat to be named MCC Player of the Year.

 

MARION, Ind. -- The Mid-Central College Conference men's soccer post-season awards were released for the 2008 season and Indiana Wesleyan University was well represented. Highlighting the selections is Indiana Wesleyan senior forward Joel Trainer as MCC Player of the Year. Trainer led the MCC with 18 points and six assists during conference play. The Colorado Springs, Colorado native was second during MCC action with six goals. For the season, Trainer led the Wildcats with 14 points, seven assists and 35 points. This is the second straight Player of the Year honor for Indiana Wesleyan. Last season, David Reed earned the recognition.

Six Wildcats were named to the MCC All-Conference team. IWU led all schools with members on the team. Senior midfielder Mason Bragg, senior defender Ben Chleboun, senior midfielder Christian Davis and Trainer were chosen to the First Team. Junior goalkeeper Spenser Lang and sophomore midfielder Mitch Lobdell were tabbed Second Team selections.

Indiana Wesleyan shared the Mid-Central College Conference regular season championship with Bethel (Ind.) College by compiling a 7-1-0 record. This is the third straight season the Wildcats have won or shared the conference title.

Daniel Wasson

is playing 2007-08 year for SV Meppen. He is currently under contract with VfL Osnabrück of the German 2nd Bundesliga. He has played 22 career games for the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer in 2006 and 2007.

Wasson began his collegiate soccer career at the United States Air Force Academy where he scored 23 goals in 37 games. In 2004 he transferred to Tulsa University where he appeared in 43 games, scoring 8 goals and 6 assists.

He was drafted in the fourth round, 38th overall by the Colorado Rapids in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft.

Daniel played at Liberty High School and on the 83 Pride Hotspurs (before Predator teams)

Kira Duran

,an alumni from the Predator 88's, is currently playing ball at the College of Saint Rose. Saint Rose has garnered four NCAA Tournament berths within the past five years, and are currently ranked #3 in the nation. Kira was named as a 3rd team academic all American, and after the Championship game was named 1st all conference for her defensive play. Kira is currently playing a central defensive roll, and her team has only allowed in 7 goals for the NCAA 2007 season. We wish her and the team luck in the first rounds of pool play!
