....in San Diego, California. The Predators opened the tournament against a tough team from northern CA, Paris Saint Germain FC (we were hoping for the team from France, but not so). The Pred boys came out flying, scored two great goals, and ended up winning 2-1. The Predators next game was against a very physical Blackhawks team from Arizona. The boys handled their aggressiveness with cool heads and played great soccer. We dominated the entire game and won convincingly 3-0. The third pool game was against the tournament hosts Nomads, that had a tremendous amount of skill and speed. The boys came out slow, gave up a deflection goal in the first five minutes and had to chase the game. We ended up losing the game 2-0, but advanced to the semi finals with a new found determination to play our best. The semi final game was played on an elementary school field that was tiny to say the least. The team played the Manteca Rangers (CA), and won the game 2-1 but dominated the game more than the score reflected. Like a script from a movie, the boys got another chance at the Nomads team in the finals. The game was very intense, but again the boys’ composure and team effort saw them dominate most of the first half and all of the second half. Neither team could finish on their opportunities, so the game went to overtime. Again the Predators dominated play in overtime, but could not capitalize on the chances, and the final would be settled through penalties. We scored our first two attempts, then our keeper took over stopping two of the Nomads penalties, and ultimately the PREDATORS 97 boys won the tournament 2-1 on PK’s. It was so exciting to win the tournament in that manner, but more importantly winning because of a complete team effort. I am sure the experience will be remembered for a long time. Thanks to all the players for their efforts both on and off the field, and the parents and families for all the support to make the weekend fantastic. THE PICTURE IS OF THE TEAM PRAYING BEFORE THE FINALS.
