Predators 93 Crowned 2008 Score at the Shore Champions in NC

The 93 Predators traveled across country to North Carolina for their second showcase tournament of the summer. Pristine putting green fields, heat & humidity welcomed the girls on their first morning of play. In the opening group of showcase play the girls were pitted against teams from NC, NJ and NY. Despite the long journey and time difference the girls came out ready to play and won both of their first two games 4-0. Their third opponent, the FC Sting Killer Bees from NY (ranked nationally) proved formidable in the air early on and catching the girls off guard quickly gained 2-0 lead. Keeping their composure and adjusting their play, the Predators came out a different team in the second half and went on to score 4 goals (including a hat trick from Cate Parchinski) for a comeback victory of 4-2 knocking the Killer Bees out of the Overall Championship rounds.

Different from most showcase formats, teams were then bracketed for Overall, Red & White Championship play resulting in a guarantee of 5-6 games. The Predators ‘93 continued their dominance in quarter (5-0) and semi (6-1) final play with victories over teams from NC and CT to set up a meeting with 4 times GA state champions GSA from Atlanta in the final.

In temperatures over 100 degrees the girls got off to a flying start with a great individual effort from Sarah Schweiss less than 5 minutes into the game. The GSA team responded with a period of dominance and but for some great saves from Tita Garcia the Predators could have been tied going into the half time break. Instead from a quick counter attack right on the stroke of half time they scored a second goal through Jenna Howerton to give themselves some breathing room going into the second half. GSA came out firing in the second half but the game was quickly put to bed with another two goals from Jenna Howerton giving her a much deserved hat trick in the championship game.

Overall the team played to a very high level all weekend gaining a lot of recognition from the watching college coaches. During their trip the girls also took advantage of the closeness of Wake Forest, UNC Chapel Hill and Duke for quick walking tours. The Shore Showcase/Tournament was a huge success for the team winning all 6 games and winning the Overall Championship! The girls performed extremely well, saw 3 different colleges and had lots of team building and fun memories to look back on.
